The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is committed to employing a multifaceted approach in the development of housing options to meet the varied needs of our beneficiaries. Turnkey homes; subsistence agricultural lots; kūpuna housing; multi-family homesteads and owner-builder programs are a part of that approach. Upon the completion of the 28 projects listed, an estimated total of over 5,800 units* are expected.

MAUI

Nestled against the lush leeward slope of Mauna Kahālāwai in the ahupua‘a of Wailuku, Pu‘uhona Homestead will be home to 161 native Hawaiian beneficiaries and their ‘ohana. Groundwork on the roughly 47-acre project began in May 2023.

Located makai of the State’s planned temporary housing site Ka Laʻi Ola and north of the existing Leialiʻi 1A homestead neighborhood in Lahaina, Villages of Leiali’i 1B Homestead will be home to 181 native Hawaiian beneficiaries and their ‘ohana. Groundwork on the project will begin in 2025.
